    Description

    NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
    MAKER:  Hideo Ishihara
    SIZE: 4-1/8" tall, head diameter 4-3/8"
    CONDITION:  Few tiny dots of white paint on head.
    NOTES: Mr. Ishihara was born in Tokyo in 1925 and passed in 1999 at the age of 74. He was registered as a traditional Narugo artist. His grandfather, Iwataro Onuma, was the originator of the Narugo traditional kokeshi. Mr. Ishihara was trained in Narugo style but found it too confining and switched to creative shortly after. From 1959 through 1969, he won 60 prizes as a creative artist including the prime minister award
