There are about 8(?) Check valves in various places on a Yak 52/ Yak 50/ Yak 18-T.
This square section piston with its inset annular rubber ring is what provides one-way sealing against the ridge of the round brass slug shown.
In the third photo, a piston with a tired rubber insert can be seen - recessed and ridged, which leads to Check Valve Leakage.
If you are overhauling your check valve, soaking the other brass components and compression spring in Carb Cleaner for at least 30 minutes is a great start.
Also, take a good look at the aluminum sealing ring and consider replacing it if there are signs of excessive deformation or surface galling. The two sealing rings we supply are not some off the shelf item from McMaster or Summit Racing. We waterjet our own seal rings to ensure the correct grade and temper of aluminum, because these seals are what keeps 750 psi inside the valve.
They are so soft, in fact, that care should be taken to ensure the lower crush washer is not cocked during re-assembly. Make sure the ridge on the brass slug is facing down ( to engage with the piston's rubber ring) and lowering the slug using pliers as shown will allow you to keep it parallel as you load it.
Notice, from the comparison photo, that this is a RUSSIAN check valve, and parts are not interchangeable with the smaller NANCHANG CJ6 check valves shown to the left.
