FREE SHIPPING IN CONTINENTAL USAll single seat Yaks ( 50/55) plus the Yak 52 TW use this small piston in the Pressure Relief Valve.
( Yak 52 and Yak 18T use the larger diameter PRV Piston that has a saddle )
The hex nut on the PRV (Yak 50 shown) - controls the pneumatic system pressure by adjusting a compression spring. That force is on this Piston 24/7 so eventually the rubber slug in the face will take a set - at which time it may not seal as well as a new one.
A great place to start if your air pressure gauge is dropping overnight.
To replace it,
* carefully depressurize the system,
* remove the hex nut ( making a note of how many turns were required )
* lift out the spring,
* swap the piston with your new one
* re-install the spring and wind on the same number of turns on the hex
* THEN LEAVE IT ALONE for a couple of hours. Let the spring pressure pre-seat the rubber seal BEFORE YOU TURN ON system air.
Doing this will prolong Piston seal life.
