If you are considering upgrading your Yak 55’s panel for more modern avionics, here's a blank canvas.  Your avionics shop will probably have all the dies or tooling to punch holes where you have designed them.
Why settle for a flat piece of sheet metal?  This is an accurate repro of the original, but milled from 6061 billet.
The design team for the Yak 55 were possibly on a weight saving crusade - no conveniently hinged instrument panels for you!  Instead the 55 had 4 vibration isolated grommets let into the panel, which then secured directly to the airframe fascia with M5 screws. Undo them and you are left holding the baby.
The design team threw in 2 more screws along the bottom edge for the later 55/M.
When TYC first released Yak 55 Repro panels in May 2018 we had the luxury of several actual aircraft to measure.
We quickly discovered quite a bit of variation on panel mounting grommet / screw location from one machine to the next. Enough, anyway, that suppling the blank panels  “pre-grommetted” wasn’t going to work.
Included in this kit, therefore, are these small Orange 3D printed drill guides with integral drill bushings, that will permit accurate panel Grommet hole positioning, customized to your particular airframe.
Starting along the lower edge, attach two orange drill guides with their notches facing upward ( they will eventually take the weight of the Virgin panel).  Use an Allen key ( not provided) through the drill bushing (that has been pressed into the guides), to pick up the threaded hole in the fascia and install an M5 Socket head screw, so locking the guide. Repeat so you have two Orange drill guides along the fascia bottom edge both with their notches facing upward.
Now repeat this procedure on the upper two holes in the fascia, but this time arrange for the notches in the Orange drill guides to lie horizontally.
These 4 orange drill guides now create a support ‘slot’ into which the Virgin panel can be introduced. (
As described above, only Yak 55/M owners will need to make use the extra 2 clips.)
The second Allen screw in each Orange drill guides bears on the edge of the new panel allowing you to adjust the blank panel up, down and sideways in preparation for drilling pilot mounting holes.
Since a larger diameter grommet installs in this hole, the panel would next be removed to a drill press where the counterbore (supplied) enlarges the pilot holes up to grommet ID.
Six rubber grommets, steel bushings, washers, snap retaining rings and Socket head cap screws complete the mounting installation.
As you design, remember to leave room around the panel edge and fight the temptation to reposition avionics ALL THE WAY TO THE EDGE in your new design. The fixed fascia behind your Yak 55 Front panel is inset a minimum of 5-10 mm and does not match panel outline exactly.
Also consider having a local Laser cutting shop make a proto out of clear acrylic so you can install your actual instruments and ensure full and free movement of the control column ( and perhaps other pilot access issues).
TYC offers design and fabrication services for your custom panel at additional cost.
